Message from the Chair

Welcome to Region II on the web!  The National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) is organized and operated exclusively for educational purposes to assist individuals with professional interests in the administration of sponsor programs (research, education, and training) primarily at colleges and universities, and our own Region II consists of research administrators in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, DC., and West Virginia.

In addition to the resources provided by our National organization, Region II offers learning and networking opportunities specific to its members throughout the year, including:

  • Our Professional Development Committee, which teaches workshops at various institutions throughout the Region on myriad topics including contract negotiation, Uniform Guidance, and the popular Hot Topics in Research Administration;
  • Our new Subregions, which plan professional development events in a more local, budget-friendly setting; and,
  • The Cheryl-Lee Howard Mentor Me Program, which matches relative newcomers to the field of research administration with fellow Region II colleagues who have complementary skills, background, and experience to assist them in identifying leadership and professional development goals and objectives.

Additionally, Region II hosts its own Regional Meeting each year in the fall. This year, we will be joined by NCURA’s International Region at the Westin Jersey City Newport in Jersey City, NJ, from October 16-18, 2019.  To allow attendees greater access to the knowledge base of fellow members, half-day workshops will be included with the price of registration for the very first time.  We are also particularly excited to be partnering with the International Region to develop a program that addresses the increasingly complex issues involved with global collaborations.

I appreciate the opportunity to serve as your Regional Chair, and look forward to working with my fellow 2019 Officers on a number of initiatives in the coming year:

Katie McKeon, University of Maryland (Chair-Elect)

Ted Fehskens, Johns Hopkins University (Treasurer)

Catherine Parker, George Washington University (Secretary)
